Still Growing…

We went into Tuesday morning not knowing what to expect. The fact that we had almost tripled the number of kids we were expecting on Monday meant that we could have a slight drop-off on Tuesday, or we could stay the same, or we could even grow some. We planned for the last option and it’s a good thing we did! We had another 10 children come into VBS which meant that we had 90 kids hearing about God’s love for them.

While Monday went really well, we made a few changes that helped even more kids get involved and engaged in each of the activities that we were doing. The craft for Tuesday was a huge hit (who wouldn’t want a slingshot after hearing the story of David and Goliath?!) and it really sent home the point that God is bigger than our biggest battles. You’ll see above that many of the children are building great relationships with our students already. Our students walk in as rock stars to these kids and it blows open the door to share the Gospel with them!

After VBS, our students had a quick lunch break and then we headed off to serve at Hillcrest and Founders Plaza Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers in Wylie. At Hillcrest, we sang happy birthday to one of the residents and provided ice cream to each of the guests. Students then broke off into groups and headed down the halls to talk and pray with residents that were in their room. After spending time at Hillcrest, we jumped over to Founders Plaza to do the same thing. Our students did a great job connecting with the senior adults and leading them in some worship. At the Founders Plaza, we had many residents who wheeled themselves up to our group as they sang 3 well known hymns. When we got back to our lodge, several students commented about how moving it was to spend time with the residents at both places and how much joy it brought them to see the residents smiling and engaging in conversations with them.

Tomorrow we are presenting the Gospel during VBS and we would love to have you join us in prayer for God to move in the hearts of the children. We know He is doing something big this week and we want to make sure that He get’s all the glory as we serve Him.
