JR HIGH & HIGH SCHOOL (7th-12th Grade)

Sundays

When: 11:00am

Where: Student Ministry Room, 200 Building

Currently, all of our Jr High and High School students are meeting together on Sunday mornings. We are currently in our Rooted series. Rooted is all about leaning heavy on biblical teaching and taking students deep into God’s word and helping them understand their faith and what they believe. To kick off this semester we're working through Daniel 1-6 verse by verse to examine how Daniel's experiences and Nebuchadnezzar's visions are all directed by God.

Wednesdays

When: 6:30pm - 8pm

Where: Student Ministry Room, 200 Building

Wednesday night is our worship and small groups nights. We'll hang out from 6:30-6:45pm then be led in worship by our student worship team. At 7pm, Student Pastor, John Robbins will lead us in Bible study and then small groups until 8pm. Our current series is called Squad Up and we're studying the book of Ephesians and how God calls the church to love Him and others.

STREAMING MINISTRY

Mondays & Wednesdays

When: Mondays @ 8pm, Wednesdays at 8:45pm

Where: twitch.tv/ypjohn

This summer we launched a new part of Waterbrook Students aimed at reaching teenagers in a world often overlooked...video games. Now, that might seem like an odd place to reach out, but the potential to connect with students in an area they are already in is massive and one that unfortunately not many ministries are taking advantage of.

This may not make a lot of sense yet, but keep reading to learn more about why we’re starting this ministry and what we hope to accomplish with it!

Why Video Games?
At the end of 2020, the industry of people watching others play video games came in at an astounding 5+ billion hours. Yep, you read that right...billion. This happens across a variety of platforms (including Youtube and Facebook), but a website called Twitch is currently leading the charge by a large margin. The fastest growing segment of viewers are our teens, Gen Z.

Why Twitch?
What is unique about this type of content is the community atmosphere it can bring. Twitch allows people to watch someone play a game, but what makes it unique compared to other content platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc) is the ability to chat live with the person playing. Over time this can create connections and community within a group of people that consistently watch and interact with the person streaming.

What’s the Goal?
The goal for this ministry is to build connections with students on a digital platform that will allow us to speak truth into their lives, whether in person or online. Covid made us realize the need to find new ways to connect to students digitally. A digital connection can’t replace the value of connecting with others physically in person, but it can become a valuable resource when looking to enhance or even begin a connection where truth can be shared.

What Will We Be Playing?
Just about everything! If a student is interested in a game, we will give it a goal! Every time we stream, we will post what games we’re going to be playing that night so that parents can approve what games their students can watch and interact with. Some games will be completely family friendly (Uno, Rocket Leauge, Among Us) and others will be more mature (Fortnite, Call of Duty), but as a parent we will let you know what we’re playing so you can stay informed!

How Can Your Student Be Involved?
There are two ways they can be involved:
1. They can follow along and chat with us each time we stream. That’s the simplest way to get plugged in and connected. People connected to the chat will be involved in giveaways, fun challenges, and even help me play games periodically. If they don’t want to chat, but just want to watch and follow along, that’s great too!

2. Play with us! Each week that we stream we will encourage students to play with us...because playing by yourself just isn’t as much fun! Sometimes we will be playing games where students who have an Xbox or PC can play with us...other times we will be using our phones and tablets to play. Our goal is to play a variety of games so that we can include more students and their friends!

What’s Next?
The first thing you need to do is jump over to twitch.tv/ypjohn, create and account, and give us a follow. This will allow you to get notifications when we go live. You can also join our Discord to stay up to date on all the most important information for the stream.
