Yun Li, Pastor of Children’s Ministries

Yun Li  [pronounced u-ween lee] joined the Waterbrook staff in 2018 as our first Pastor of Children’s Ministries.

Pastor Yun has a deep love of children and God’s Word. Here’s what she writes about her calling to ministry:

“I am passionate about children’s ministry. I desire to see children develop and grow in love for God and His Word. I believe children’s ministry is to come alongside the family to build a strong spiritual foundation in children by teaching the Bible and equipping children to be mature Christ-followers.”

Everyone is impressed by her understanding of children, love for parents, and passion for God’s Word. She believes a key part of ministry to children is coming alongside and equipping parents.

Yun’s Life and Family

Here’s what Yun writes about her personal story…

“I was born and grew up in Taiwan. I come from a close-knit family with hard-working, dedicated and loving parents. My two older sisters and I are very close. Even though we live in different parts of the world, we keep in close touch.”

“I became a Christian in summer 1994 when I was studying for my master’s degree at the University of Illinois. God’s love touched my heart by the kindness of Christians from the student fellowship.”

“My husband, Frank Hsu, was born in Taiwan and has lived in the States since he was fourteen. He received his Ph.D. in 1998 and is a principal engineer. He is a quiet and tenacious man. He has served on the church governing board, church building committee and pastoral search committee. Frank is also artistic and very good working with his hands. I am very blessed to have his support and encouragement in responding to God’s call to attend DTS and to pursue full-time ministry.”

“My daughter, Annie Hsu, is our only child. She was born in January 2001. Annie is a bundle of joy and energy. A black-belt in martial art, Annie is a faithful servant in the Junior High Ministry at church and has a big heart for missions work. All three of us enjoy reading and nature.”

Yun has a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from National Taiwan University (Taipei, Taiwan). She holds Master’s of Science/Accounting and an MBA (Finance) from University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana).
Yun has a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary and is working on her Doctor of Educational Ministry at DTS.

What else do we know about Yun?

She is a very dedicated mother and wife.
She has worked with children of all ages – from nursery through high school.
Most recently she has worked with special needs children between 4 and 12 years old.
She has designed and written curriculum for children.
Yun & Frank are recent empty nesters with Annie’s graduation and departure for college.

Immediately after joining our staff team, we discovered Yun has a great sense of humor and is a great addition to the joy we have together as a team. On her candidate Sunday she offered the suggestion of having a staff retreat to go bungee jumping or skydiving!
