Christians & Politics
Waterbrook does not take a public stand on elections and political races. But we do believe Christians have a role to play in a nation. Each Christian should take biblical guidance into consideration when approaching government issues, elections, and community involvement. Additionally, each follower of Christ should pray and seek God's will prior to making decisions about issues and candidates. We've provided the following links to assist your consideration of biblical responses to political issues.
A Seven Day Prayer Guide
We invite you to join with us on this seven day prayer challenge as we move toward an election in the USA. Please pray on the following emphasis for each day of the coming week.

DAY 1 - PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD
Pray today for the Church in America, that:
-
Our eyes will be opened to see the hope to which we are called (Ephesians 1:18).
-
We will experience in a fresh, new way the presence of Christ in revival.
-
Believers will be given the faith to believe that their votes will make a difference.
-
A spirit of repentance and humility will be poured out upon the people of God.

DAY 2 - PRAY FOR THE POLITICAL LEADERS
Pray today for the leaders and political candidates, that:
-
Pray for the salvation of those who are in leadership of our nation. Ask the Lord to remove all envy and selfish ambition. "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice" (James 3:16).
-
Pray that candidates will take brave stands for righteousness, even when it may not be well received. "If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all" (Isa. 7:9).
-
Pray that their families will be protected from harm and unnecessary scrutiny. "You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race" (Ps. 12:7–8).
-
Ask the Lord to surround them with godly advisors. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise" (Ps. 111:10).
-
Pray that each candidate will focus on the issues we face as a nation—and not on personal attacks on other candidates. "If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other" (Gal. 5:15).

DAY 3 - PRAY FOR THE VOTERS IN THIS ELECTION
Pray today for those who will be voting in this election, that:
-
Voters will be educated and examine the issues and the candidates and vote in a way that is best for the nation, not just their own well-being.
-
Wisdom will be sought from God (James 1:5).
-
Self-interest will be laid aside for the common good.
-
Discernment between truth and falsehood will be clear

DAY 4 - PRAY FOR THE IMPACT ON OTHER NATIONS
Pray today for the election and its impact on the world, that:
-
Voters will consider the foreign policies of candidates and how they fit with biblical principles.
-
The activities of other nations will not have an undue influence on our elections.
-
The result of U.S. elections will serve to spread the gospel around the globe.
-
The U.S. will stand firm in its commitment to Israel’s right to exist as a nation.

DAY 5 - PRAY AGAINST SPIRITUAL WARFARE
Pray today for protection against in influence of Satan, that:
-
Ask for great awareness and discernment as we pray over the election. "Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is" (Eph. 5:15–17).
-
Pray for physical protection for all candidates and their families throughout this campaign season. "May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you" (Ps. 20:1).
-
Beseech the Lord for a strong hedge of protection around the nation itself during this time of decision. "May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you" (Ps. 33:22).
-
Pray that God would reveal truth and protect all against the influence of lies.

DAY 6 - PRAY FOR ALL CITIZENS & THE SPREAD OF THE GOSPEL
Pray today for God to use this season to reach your neighbors with the Gospel, that:
-
That they be presented with the gospel and a loving Christian witness. (Romans 10:14)
-
That, if unsaved, they be drawn to a saving encounter with Christ; if born-again, that they be strengthened and encouraged in their faith. (1 Timothy 2:4, Ephesians 1:17-23)
-
That they recognize their own inadequacy and pray and seek the will of God. (Proverbs 3:5-8, Luke 11:9-13)
-
That they be convicted of sin, transgression, and iniquity. (Psalm 51:17, John 8:9)
-
That they heed their conscience, confess their sins and repent. (Proverbs 28:13, James 4:8)

DAY 7 - PRAY FOR GOD'S WILL TO BE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THIS ELECTION
Pray today for God to use this season to accomplish His plan and that we would accept His sovereign will, that:
-
Pray that the U.S. will turn and seek first the Kingdom of God.
-
Pray that God will be honored in the midst of this election campaign.
-
Pray for opportunities for Christians to share their faith and their values in the midst of this election process.
-
Pray that the results of the elections will please the Lord and release His blessing over this nation.
